The days when you were potty trained and the days when you are doing the training are two completely different animals. Back then, there were potty chairs, toilet seats, and step stools, and that was it.

While doing things the “old-fashioned way” is still a viable option, why make things harder than they need to be if there’s a product out there that can solve a problem? We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite potty training tools.

How cool is this gadget?! It has folding legs so that it’s compact for on-the-go potty breaks, and the empty chair with removable plastic inserts means that it stays clean. No more carrying around a dirty potty chair in the backseat.

Fridababy Fridet

Pronounced “frih-day,” this tool is a play on the increasingly popular bidet. Making sure that those baby bums get fully cleaned can be a challenge when there is so much wiggling going on, and this tool helps address the problem. Just squirt the water on your tot’s toosh to get the poop off, then pat dry before letting them hop down. The water is safe on sensitive skin and is a helpful tool for effective cleaning.

Potty Watch

Asking your kid if they need to go potty is as repetitive as “The Wheels on the Bus” and their all-too-familiar response: “But Why??” If your child is particularly enthralled by technology and gadgets, this may be the solution for you. Simply set the timer on the little watch, and when it goes off, your kid knows to try and go potty. Does the name Pavlov ring a bell?  Let technology do the nagging for you.

If you’ve tried to start your toddler off on the full-sized potty, you might have experienced something like this:

Toddler: (Wild-eyed, frantically grabbing your hair, shirt, glasses, toilet paper holder) “No!!!! I’m going to fall in!!”

You: (Trying to sound calm and encouraging while struggling to keep a squirming toddler and your glasses from falling into the bowl) “You’re fine! I’ve got you! Sit! Down!”

Cheerios

That’s right: the humble Cheerio. While not the most technologically advanced tool on this list, it may be the most economical and engaging to use. Simply drop a few Cheerios into the bowl before having your little boy go potty and make a game out of good aim.

Summer Infant My Size Potty

Kids love just about everything that’s “me-sized,” and this tiny toilet certainly fits the mold. While there is something to be said for sitting on a friendly-looking potty chair that has lights and sounds, this particular potty chair looks exactly like a grown-up toilet. It even has a flusher (for look and action only) and a place to keep wipes.

Peejamas

Peejamas are probably the best option out there for nighttime potty training. They are extra absorbent, so those accidents don’t leak all over the sheets, mattress protector, and possibly mattress itself. You can even wash them over 300 times without their losing absorbency, making them a great alternative to bedwetting diapers. Add onto that the fact that Peejamas are made without potentially harmful chemicals that are found in some fabrics, and you can rest assured that your child is protected while he sleeps. 

Potty training is one of those things that is necessary but not necessarily enjoyable. Hopefully these gadgets will help you and your child navigate this next step toward a diaper-free life.
